Advent Season Is Upon Us: Come Lord Jesus!

This Sunday, the Christian Church begins celebrating the Advent Season. “Advent” refers to the “coming” of God’s Son to this earth in the form of a little baby. The Christian Church believes that on the first Christmas night, the second Person of the Trinity came out of the Godhead and became a vulnerable baby, born to the Virgin Mary.  Beyond all question, the appearing of God in a human body is a mystery. As the Apostles contemplated Jesus’ teaching about Himself, as they meditated on the miraculous works of Christ, and as they encountered Jesus in His resurrected body, the Holy Spirit was able to open their eyes to the full identity of this God-man. Human categories could not fully explain who Jesus was.

Things Will Be A Little Different

In Advent Season, Christians not only look back to Christ’s first Coming, but we also look forward in faith and hope to Christ’s second Coming. We believe there will be some notable differences between the two Comings………………

The first time Jesus came, He came veiled in the form of a child. The next time He comes, and we believe it will be soon, He will come unveiled, and it will be abundantly and immediately clear to all the world just who He really is.

The first time He came, a star marked His arrival. The next time He comes, the whole heavens will roll up like a scroll, and all the stars will fall out of the sky, and He Himself will light it.

The first time He came, wise men and shepherds brought Him gifts. The next time He comes, He will bring gifts and rewards for those who love Him and are faithfully waiting for Him.

The first time He came, there was no room for Him in the inn. The next time He comes, the whole world will not be able to contain His glory.

The first time He came, only a few attended His arrival – some shepherds and some wise men. The next time He comes, every eye will see Him.

The first time He came as a weak baby. Soon He will come as King of Kings. Every knee will bow before Him and every tongue will confess “He is Lord”.

Why Do We Wait Joyfully and Expectantly?

The One we joyfully wait for is the Saviour, who suffered and died in our place on the cross two thousand years ago. He took all the powers of darkness on Himself, all of our brokenness and alienation, everything that the demonic could throw at Him, and He overcame them. By His wounds we are healed, and by His resurrection we no longer need to fear death. That is why we joyfully wait for His second Coming. He will put everything right. There will be no more death, no more tears, no more betrayals, no more injustice. But only shalom……….peace and well being in the fullest sense. This is Good News.
